Protect the Public

Many years ago, the Ordre adopted a Code of Ethics and related regulations governing CGAs’ professional conduct. CGAs are required to carry out their duties in compliance with ethical rules set by the accounting profession.

CGAs are “restricted title” professionals within the meaning of the Professional Code. Although they do not have the exclusive right to engage in professional activities, only members of the Ordre are authorized to use the CGA designation in Quebec.

In keeping with its public-protection mission, the Ordre is responsible for ensuring the competence of Quebec CGAs. To this end, the Ordre:

  • Monitors CGAs’ competence and integrity;
  • Monitors professional practice;
  • Regulates professional practice;
  • Oversees the disciplinary process.
