Unifying the accounting profession in Canada: Update
The initiativeto unify the three accounting orders in Quebec is making progress. Efforts aimedat reaching the stated goal and preparing for the transition to the new unifiedaccounting order are ongoing, as mentioned in the update published in theDecember 2011 issue of the members’ newsletter CGA Express.Quebec is thus playing a pioneering role in efforts to unify the accountingorders. On the national stage, the Certified General Accountants Association ofCanada (CGA-Canada), the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) andthe Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA-Canada), presented to theirrespective members a proposed framework for uniting Canada’s accounting profession,on January 17, 2012. As a reminder, please note that given the fact that theaccounting profession is provincially regulated, any subsequent unificationproposals would be issued provincially.
