Adoption of the Act creating the Ordre des CPA

May 16, 2012 - Today, Quebec’s National Assembly adopted Bill 61, the Chartered Professional Accountants Act. The Act will take effect when it receives assent, which is expected to be in the near future. This will institute the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec.
This represents the end of a long road that will open up the future of the accounting profession. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Quebec’s three accounting orders, a historical milestone has been reached. The three orders brought to fruition this fifth attempt to unify the profession in Quebec; they are also leading the way in Canada and are convinced that other provinces will follow suit in the coming months.
As soon as the Act takes effect, the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec, the Ordre des comptables généraux accrédités du Québec and the Ordre des comptables en management accrédités du Québec will make way for the new order. Representing 35,000 accounting professionals, as well as 6,500 CPA candidates, the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec will be Quebec’s third-largest professional order.
