The exams: an unavoidable step towards becoming a CGA
The CGA exams are an essential step in ensuring the competence of future members of the Ordre.
There are two sets:
- two technical competency exams (TX2, AU2 or MU1) – see the Competency exam exemption section
- two professional competency exams (PA1 and PA2)
How to prepare for exams
The CGA exams are given nationally and test students’ knowledge of the CGA-Canada program. By establishing a list of course prerequisites for each university (available on the CGA website), the Ordre ensures that the university programs and the CGA program are equivalent.
To maximize their chances of success on the exams, candidates may purchase course materials, in addition to the course notes on which the exams are based, from the Ordre. The official course notes are sold in CD-ROM format. In certain cases, they are accompanied by additional notes in hard copy format. For price information and to order materials online, please consult the list of instructional materials.
Please note
- For candidates enrolled in the old program, the PA1 exam must be taken last, upon completion of the CGA program.
- Written exams are the exclusive property of CGA-Canada and remain under its supervision and responsibility at all times. Please note that to ensure the complete integrity of future CGA exams, no exam questions, answer keys or other evaluation documents will be provided to students.
- Should you want to obtain the public accountancy permit one day, if you are granted an AU2 exam exemption, you will have to write and pass this exam just the same.
